Owning a town house can be terrific, especially if you’re situated right near the town centre so amenities are easy to get to. That said, today most of these houses have a lot of character on the outside, but not so much on the inside. If you own a mid-terrace town house, you may want to strip it back to its previous character.
So many people lay carpets over the top of solid oak floorboards, but why? Let the personality come through, and finish the wood in a deep brown colour, bringing the style back to its original form. Timber beams and shelves are often removed but again why? These also add character, and they can help you get a period style that us British folks love!
So many people think too much about contemporary finishes, and that’s all well and good, but not if you have a traditional town house because you can combine old with new. A lick of paint can compliment original oak floorboards and beams, while classical oak bannisters and doors can further complement the traditional town house feel.
